Who We Help

It was always an aspiration for Dr Yazbek to create a functional chiropractic centre with a focus on neuro-rehabilitation, where his multi-faceted approach could be expanded upon and embraced by a variety of integral health practitioners that could synergistically work together.

Dr Yazbek truly believes that his patients deserve the best, most advanced care possible and will go to great lengths to construct a nuanced, effective treatment plan. The nervous system is capable of remarkable adaptations and knowing how many patient cases are amenable to neurological rehabilitation is perhaps the most rewarding aspect of our practice.

All conditions

Concussion

A concussion is a brain injury associated with rapid brain movement and characteristic clinical symptoms that include but are not limited to:

  • Headache
  • Visual fatigue and blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo
  • Behavioural & cognitive changes
  • Hormonal, neurotransmitter and metabolic disruption

Concussion diagnosis and management pose unique challenges for practitioners, as there are no objective biomarkers, and clinical deficits are often subtle.

Dr. Yazbek is able to combine both a functional medicine and a neurological approach to ensure that both the brain and body are working synchronously to allow maximal restoration and recovery.

Whiplash

Whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) are a common, disabling and costly condition that occurs as a consequence of a motor vehicle accident (MVA). Patients may report diverse symptoms following a whiplash injury. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, loss of balance, visual disturbances, tingling & numbness, weakness, cognitive disturbances and memory difficulties.

Whilst those with post-traumatic stress disorder have the least favourable prognosis following whiplash, interventions that are aimed at improving head-neck control, neuroplasticity training and addressing psycho-emotional factors can greatly improve function and quality of life.

Vertigo & Dizziness

Vertigo and dizziness are common complaints in clinical practice. Vertigo is a condition when dislodged calcium carbonate crystals migrate through the anatomical portion of the inner ear to an area known as the semicircular canals. This floating debris in the canal is what provokes symptoms such as nausea and perception of the world spinning around them. A Chiropractor with expert training in neuroscience is trained to differentiate many conditions that can present as vertigo and dizziness.

In addition, there are many repositioning techniques that help with the reduction in symptoms and improve quality of life. Furthermore, medications that treat symptoms of vertigo do not address the cause. Medications for the treatment of vertigo are non-specific and can actually worsen the condition if long-term use is advocated.

Headaches and migraines

Although, migraine headaches have a large genetic component, in some patients the neck may be a compounding effect in the aetiology of the condition. In other patients the neck may play a lesser role.

In unresolved chronic headaches and migraines, there are many other nutritional, environmental and metabolic factors that can be evaluated and treated. A combined functional medicine and neuro-rehabilitative approach is best when it comes to addressing the triggers and mediators for headache and migraine. Tests may include food allergy & sensitivity testing, urine organic acid testing and detox-genomic testing.

Neurological disorders

Many patients who seek care with a medical neurologist may wait months for an appointment. Depending on the severity and/or progressive nature of the disease, this time period can be crucial to ensure timely guidance and recommendations. It also provides a chance to modify lifestyle and environmental conditions and implement dietary changes. Furthermore, It presents an opportunity to perform advanced functional laboratory testing, electrodiagnostic studies and implement a personalised therapeutic treatment plan. This can all possibly be achieved prior to the initial appointment with your medical neurologist.

Our principal chiropractor is uniquely placed to perform a thorough neurological examination pertaining to all levels of the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Examination testing may include:

  • Cognitive capacity assessments
  • Gait analysis
  • Autonomic function
  • Cranial nerve testing
  • Quantified nerve conduction and reflex studies
  • Coordination, gait and quantified balance evaluation
  • Spinal cord evaluation
  • Brain region function evaluation
  • Neuro-musculoskeletal assessment

Based on the findings of your examination, a personalized treatment plan can be synthesised that matches your personal requirements to facilitate improvements to your functioning and quality of life.

If you’ve been searching for a neurologic chiropractic centre, then you need not look further than Dr Yazbek’s clinic, The Chiro Hub. There are very few clinics that can offer such a rigorous clinical perspective that includes not only exceptional chiropractic care, but provides a meticulous neurological examination that is highly sought after in the field of functional neuroscience. More and more people are discovering that there are actionable strategies that will greatly help them, where they were initially led to believe that there were none with a conventional approach. Our patients often report how grateful they are to have landed upon our services. Schedule an appointment today to learn how our neurologic approach to care can help you.

Sciatica

Pain and tingling down the back of the leg is usually associated with sciatica. However, there are many masquerades of sciatica which need to be ruled out.

The Chiro Hub is able to utilize electrodiagnostic studies to assess how the nerves function from the spine all the way down to the feet. This allows more appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Low back pain

Low back pain is a common complaint that presents to doctors of both conventional and allied health practices. What needs to be realized is that chiropractors have a specialised scope regarding the diagnosis, treatment and management of spinal disorders, in many cases more so than medical doctors. Spinal adjustment techniques, manual therapy methods and corrective exercise strategies have a much greater impact on subjective pain scales than do pain prescriptive medicines. Our principal Chiropractor is able to differentiate many spinal conditions, utilize nerve conduction studies as well as interpret advanced spinal imaging analyses, all of which are quite unique amongst fellow colleagues.

To ensure Dr. Yazbek can provide the best available treatment to his patients, he has liaised with some of the best pain and spine specialists in Sydney. Once a diagnosis can be confidently provided, in the case where surgery or specialist pain intervention is required, a referral can be arranged.

Nerve injuries

Nerve injuries can be the result of mechanical compression from protruded discs, direct compression to the limb itself or blunt trauma.

The prognosis of healing depends on the location of the nerve injury, grade of severity and if the patient has metabolic factors that may influence healing time such as poor blood sugar control, nutritional and iron deficiencies. The Chiro Hub utilizes advanced technology such as electrodiagnostic studies to determine how the nerves in the arms, hands, legs and feet are functioning. Once this information is quantified, we can use this pre and post intervention whether it be a surgical neuro-rehabilitative approach or otherwise.

Dysautonomia

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term that describes conditions or states that have a negative effect on the brain, brainstem or spinal cord. When there is dysregulation to these areas, unconscious bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, digestion, pain control, sweating, and temperature control are not appropriately matched by the changes in internal/external environment, foods we consume or exercise related activities.

Dysautonomia can cause a wide variety of symptoms and may be categorized into different names such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Orthostatic Intolerance, and Neuro-Cardiogenic Syncope. In fact, many patients have developed POTS from the sequelae of Long-Covid yet have not received the appropriate treatment. The Chiro Hub uses advanced technology to measure changes in heart rate, blood pressure and other parameters related to the autonomic nervous system.

Dysautonomia has also been associated with digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Unfortunately these patients are treated as if their gut is the primary problem, but dysautonomia greatly affects gut function and close attention and treatment is necessary outside the gut, such as the interrelationship between gut microbiota, vagal tone and neurotransmitters

It is common for dysautonomia to be reported after head trauma, viral infections, surgeries and even vaccinations. Each patient with the same set of symptoms therefore must be treated differently.

Common symptoms of dysautonomia include:

Dizziness, light-headedness, fainting/passing out, chest pain, heart palpitations/heart racing, headaches, brain fog, anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep disorders, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, muscle/joint pain, unstable joints in the body, and discolouration of hands and feet.

Dysautonomia evaluation

Due to the complexity and many facets to dysautonomia, there is no single method for the treatment of dysautonomia.
Our extensive evaluation allows us to identify and understand the cause and/or triggers of the dysautonomia in order to create a personalized treatment plan.
Our principal Chiropractor focuses upon specific neurological and physical exercises, nutritional/lifestyle advice and multi-systems approach to help those suffering from dysautonomia.

Dysautonomia treatment

Our principal chiropractor focuses on specific neurological and physical exercises, photobiomodulation, non-invasive cranial nerve stimulation such as vagus nerve stimulation and trigeminal nerve stimulation and nutritional/lifestyle advice to help those suffering from dysautonomia. In addition, modulating the body’s biochemistry through electrolyte replenishment and immune modulating therapies have proven successful in those suffering from dysautonomia.

Autoimmune conditions

Many autoimmune conditions are treated very simplistically and linearly in conventional medicine. However, a functional medicine approach to address the multiple triggers and root causes for autoimmunity may result in remission of the disease. From a conventional model, autoimmunity is treated with a biologic or disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug. This has side effects with long term use but what’s most important is addressing immunological reaction to foods, environmental toxicants and treating bacterial and viral triggers. Often and most always, autoimmune conditions require collaboration between an integrated GP.

It is important to know that the body doesn’t just attack its own tissue for no apparent reason. The Chiro Hub has been utilising advanced methodological testing to analyse many triggers to the onset of autoimmunity.

Complex chronic illness

Our principal chiropractor has received extensive training to become recognised as a Functional Medicine Practitioner. In addition he has liaised with integrated doctors and compounding pharmacists to offer a service that is truly integrated in its approach.

Our society is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people who suffer from complex, chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, dementia, autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, and troublesome conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. The treatment that patients receive for these and other chronic conditions is often inadequate.

A focus on acute care. The system of medicine practiced by most physicians is oriented toward acute care—the diagnosis and treatment of trauma or illness that is of short duration and in need of urgent care, such as appendicitis or a broken leg. The acute-care approach to medicine lacks the proper methods and tools to prevent and treat complex, chronic diseases.

The gap between research and practice. The way many doctors practice isn’t up to date with new research. The gap between emerging research in the basic sciences and its use in medical practice is enormous—a few decades or more—particularly in the area of complex, chronic illness.

Shortfalls in training. Most doctors are not adequately trained to assess the underlying causes of complex, chronic disease and to apply lifestyle strategies such as nutrition, diet, and exercise to both treat and prevent these illnesses in their patients.
How Is Functional Medicine Different?

Functional medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic diseases. Hallmarks of a functional medicine approach include:

Patient-centered care. The focus of functional medicine is on patient-centered care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease.

How Is Functional Medicine Different?

Functional medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic diseases. Hallmarks of a functional medicine approach include:

An integrative, science-based healthcare approach. Functional medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. The unique genetic makeup of each patient is considered, along with both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning.

Functional medicine integrates and focuses on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise. The use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.
